"Westworld" star Thandie Newton, who has been vocal against the culture of sexual exploitation in Hollywood, says she was upset to be excluded from the #Time'sUp movement.
Newton, who plays Maeve on the sci-fi thriller, was sexually abused by an unnamed casting director during an audition when she was a teenager and had spoken about it before sexual harassment scandal exploded in Hollywood
"I wasn't hot enough," she told News Corp.
"I wasn't mainstream enough and I wasn't going to be at the Oscars this year, even though I am having a renaissance in my career."
Newton said not being asked was "very painful" as she had faced a lot of backlash for speaking out.
"I felt if there was one girl whose family was thinking about putting their child into show business, that would help them decide. That was all I cared about."
The Time's Up movement launch in January this year in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal in October last year. The scandal had a domino effect as many victims started opening up, leading to the fall of many high and mighty in Hollywood and other places.
The movement has raised more than USD 20 million as its legal defence fund to help people fight sexual harassment. Hollywood stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman, and Shonda Rhimes have been working with the initiative since its inception.
