Legendary singer Elton John says he regrets not becoming a father sooner but he does not bother about the criticisms for having kids late in life.

The 66-year-old singer and partner David Furnish, 50, have sons Zachary and Elijah from surrogacy, reported Daily Mirror.

The couple reportedly paid 20,000 pounds to the surrogate mother of Elijah which was just 3,000 pounds more than what they paid for their first son, Zachary.

"It was the best decision we ever did. I wish we had done it 20 years earlier because I am no spring chicken. I understand people criticising for us having children at a late age but to hell with it. We can give these children so much love," John said.

The singer also revealed that he is not very strict with his kids now.

"If they are being naughty, they are being naughty. They are just kids. We just say, 'Calm down, calm down'. Everything I thought would be annoying about being a father I find enchanting," he said.

John recently received the first BRITs Icon for selling 250 million records and producing the best single - Candle In The Wind 1997.
