Pakistan's new head coach Moin Khan today said that he would have preferred to have been given a long term contract by Pakistan Cricket Board but was ready for even a short stint.
"Any one would like to be given a long term contract but I am ready for even the challenge of preparing this team for two very important tournaments like the Asia Cup and the World T20 tournament," the former captain said.
Moin was appointed head coach yesterday by the PCB's managing committee for Asia Cup and T20 World Cup with chairman Najam Sethi making it clear that performance of all the appointed individuals would be reviewed after the two events in Bangladesh.
"A coach can produce results when he has enough time to put his plans into place. But my immediate task now is to prepare this team to give its best in the coming events and prove myself and live up to the faith reposed in me by the Board and its committee members," he said.
The former wicketkeeper-batsman said Pakistan was blessed as it has a good mixture of experience and new talent in both one-day and T20 formats.
"We also have some good senior players in the Test format. So we have the nucleus and my job will be to motivate and prepare to play to their potential," he said.
Moin said that the recent changes in the Board would not have any bearing on the players performance.
"The good thing is that I have been with this team since last year as manager so we know each other and it will not be difficult easing into coaching position as well," he said.
Moin will be assisted in his coaching job by a team that includes former Test captain Zaheer Abbas, who has been made chief cricket consultant, Muhammad Akram, the bowling coach, and Shoaib Muhammad, the fielding coach.
