Police today cane-charged aspirants who had assembled here in Medak district of Telangana to participate in a recruitment rally organised by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for various posts.
The incident occurred when IAF officials did not allow candidates who have passed their intermediate (class XII) examination this year but are awaiting passing certificates that are issued by state education board.
A heated exchange ensued between the aspirants who argued that they possess 'memo of marks' (mark sheets) and be allowed to participate in the recruitment process, however, the officials insisted on passing certificates.

This prompted the youths to take to streets and sit on a dharna, resulting in a traffic snarl.
The aspirants also raised slogans against IAF officials following which police intervened and cane-charged them in which some youths sustained injuries.
The situation was brought under control after Medak district collector Ronald Ross intervened and the IAF officials relented.
The recruitment drive began on September 8 and will last till September 14.
