The workshop, organised by IAF's Maintenance Command, was inaugurated by its chief Air Marshal Jagdish Chandra.
"We are dependent on the electromagnetic spectrum in our day to day lives and our professional lives. Be it our cell phones or an high-end electronic warfare equipment, reliable utility is the key. We can win wars only by being a superior authority in the use of spectrum," Air Marshal Chandra said in his inaugural address.
Electronic warfare involves denying enemy the effective use of radio waves by targeting equipment such as radars, communication equipment, weapon guidance systems, navigation, surveillance, jammers among others.
Air Marshal Chandra also exhorted the DPSUs and private players to manufacture products suitable for defence forces and which can withstand all kinds of harsh environment.
"The life of the electronic warfare products and equipment is ever shrinking. It becomes obsolete in about 10 years. Equipment manufacturers should suggest for upgrades every five years and cater for the improvements in the original product itself," he said.
The workshop is expected to provide all stake holders opportunity to deliberate on various issues of concern for the IAF.
It is being attended by senior scientists and management representatives from DRDO, Bharat Electronics LTD (BEL) and other private companies.
