"I strongly favour jointmanship among the services in the country. The future lies in working in unison, especially in terms of planning," 93-year-old Singh, the only living five-star rank officer of the Armed forces, told personnel of the Air Force Station here.

Singh said that IAF, currently going through a modernisation phase, is on the right path and will be completely capable to handle any situation, both perceived and otherwise.

Singh, who is in Srinagar for a eight-day tour, visited the Srinagar Air Force Station to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony and paid homage to personnel who lost their lives during the 1947, 1965 and 1971 wars and Kargil operations.

"As long as the country honours and remembers its martyrs there will be no shortfall of men to fight for her sovereignty...It is on their lives that we live and fight," he said.

Supporting dialogue with Pakistan and China, he said it was important for India to continue the dialogues with the respective neighbours.
