'Vampire Diaries' star Ian Somerhalder, who recently parted ways from co-star Nina Dobrev, rescued a bitch from the streets and has called her "the perfect girl".

The actor posted a photo of himself with his new pet on Instagram after she was rescued near the set of his show 'The Vampire Diaries', reported Digital Spy.

He tweeted to his fans that Nietzsche is the perfect girl, saying, "My new girl. Rescued from traffic near the Vampire Diaries stages just a few hours ago. So smart, so beautiful and charming - all a man could ask for in a girl. So happy together. Her name is Nietzsche."

Somerhalder split from his 'Vampire Diaries' co-star Dobrev in May. In April, he revealed plans for his own rescue centre for abused animals.

"We're building an animal sanctuary that's also going to double as a sustainable agriculture farm and triple as a youth education camp.

"When a young person comes to that farm, they leave with a different understanding of compassion. If you have compassion for an animal, ultimately you will have compassion for people.
