IAS reshuffled in Bengal

West Bengal government has

reshuffled a few IAS officers following its decision to merge 21 departments for greater efficiency and to reduce costs.

According to a source at the state secretariat, Nandini Chakraborty, who is the secretary to bio-technology department will now head the food processing department.

Reena Venkatraman, the additional chief secretary to science and technology department was transferred to the consumer affairs department, the source said.

Incidentally, the government had last week merged departments of higher education, science and technology and bio-technology into the department of higher education, science and bio-technology.

P Ramesh Kumar, the principal secretary to civil defence department was named as the presidency commissioner, he said.
 

B P Gopalika, who was the principal secretary to the food processing depatment and horticulture will now be the secretary of animal resources department.

Debashis Sen will continue heading the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) as well as Nabadiganta, Onkar Singh Meena will head the charge of urban and municipal affairs departments, he said.

Last week, the urban development and municipal affairs were merged into one department of urban development and municipal affairs.
