Indian Council of Agricultural Research today adopted a resolution to increase the number of Governing Body members of its society from 25 to 30 to include representatives from agro-industry and NGOs.

ICAR, an apex body for agri-research and education, was set up in 1929 as the registered society. The Governing Body of the ICAR society is headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Its members include senior officers of state governments, representatives of Parliament, industry, education institutes, scientific organisation and farmers.

The resolution to amend the composition of the Governing Body of ICAR society was adopted with an overwhelming support at 85th ICAR annual general meeting held here today.

The revision has been made to include 4 representatives of state governments, one member each from agro-processing industries and NGOs.

These members have been accommodated by reducing the representation from ex-officio category.

Besides, the annual audited accounts of ICAR along with auditor's report for 2012-13 fiscal was also unanimously adopted at the meeting.
