Rapper Ice Cube is set to star in "Humbug", a contemporary retelling of author Charles Dickens's 1843 novella "A Christmas Carol".

The film, a modern day version Dickens's novel, will have Cube, 46, play a wealthy real estate mogul who is shown a path to redemption by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, reported Deadline.

The film will be directed by Tim Story, of "Think Like a Man" fame. Universal Pictures has purchased the script which is written by Todd R Jones and Earl Richey Jones.

"Humbug" comes as the latest collaboration between Cube and Story, who made "Barbershop", "Ride Along", and the upcoming "Ride Along 2" together.

Cube will also produce the film alongside Jeff Kwatinetz.

The Jones brothers, whose other screenwriting credits include "Rio" and "Johnson Family Vacation", will serve as co-producers on "Humbug".
