The Centre is a result of a partnership between the Ministry of Human Resource development, Government of India, Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
An Agreement to this effect was signed on August 22, 2012 by Lise Grande, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, India and Peter Ronald deSouza, Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) in the presence of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal, Gopalkrishan Gandhi, Chairman, IIAS and Ajay Chhibber, UN Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Assistant Administrator.
Through the initiative, the Ministry of HRD, IIAS and UNDP will support South-South collaboration on ways to integrate human development analysis and approaches in development strategies.
As the governments of the South are increasingly dealing with multiple challenges of rising aspirations of citizens, globalisation of economies, environmental sustainability and growing inequality, the centre is designed to provide new approaches and solutions and support efforts by government of the South, Peter Ronald deSouza, Director, IIAS said.
The centre will provide policy advisory services based on national and international evidence to ensure that human development concerns become integral to planning processes and policy making. He said.
