IED found on Srinagar bypass road, defused

A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) was today detected by security forces at Lasjan on the Panthachowk-Parimpora stretch of Srinagar bypass road, police said.

A patrol party of security forces detected a suspicious object by the roadside at Lasjan this morning and summoned the bomb disposal squad, a police official said.

The bomb disposal squad carried out a controlled explosion to destroy the object, he said.

The traffic on the busy highway was suspended temporarily but restored after the bomb disposal squad finished its task, he added.
