An IED-type object triggered a bomb scare near a school in Naxal-affected Kuchai in Seraikela-Kharswan district today.

On information that an IED-like object was lying on ground in front of the school, the district police force and CRPF rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area with sand bags, and the students and teachers present at Adarsh Middle School in Kuchai were shifted to safer place, Superintendent of Police Inderjeet Mahatha said.

Admitting that prima facie the object appeared like an IED, Mahatha said the bomb disposal squad was called in and search began with metal detector in and around the school premises as well as the village.

As the object was found in front of school with classes taking place, Mahatha said the district police did not take anything to chance and followed the standard operation procedure to detect the object, which turned out to be filer pump of a vehicle.

The SP denied that it was the handiwork of naxals. He, however, did not rule out the possibility of miscreants' involvement to create public nuisance. A complaint has been registered against unidentified persons in this regard, he added.
