The volume of electricity traded on the Indian Energy Exchange declined last month amid continuing congestion in transmission corridors and the onset of monsoon.
"At 2,319 million units the total volume cleared in the month (July) was almost 11 per cent lesser than 2,616 MUs cleared in the previous month.
"Further, the Open Access related restrictions in a few states partly contributed to lower quantum traded this month," IEX said in a release today.

About 223 million units of electricity were curtailed in July due to unavailability of inter-regional transmission corridor, IEX said.
"Southern states, particularly Tamil Nadu and Kerala, were the worst affected as power flow into the Southern region continued to be constrained," the release said.
The Market Clearing Price (MCP) of electricity on the exchange varied from Rs 3 to 4.5 per unit.
"With average MCP at Rs. 3.76 per unit, the market remained an attractive option for buyers compared to previous month (June) when the price was almost Rs. 3.9 per unit," it added.
