The resident doctors at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) here went on strike here today to press for the arrest of three persons, who manhandled one of their colleague on duty on Saturday.
The doctor was thrashed by three relatives of a patient, after he failed to give reply to some of their queries, sources said.
Over 200 resident doctors staged protest demonstrations before the IGMC building and demanded stringent action against the accused.
However, the strike left the patients in the lurch with the services like X-ray, Ultrasound and CT Scan could not be provided to them.
Even though the IGMC administration had deputed the senior doctors to attend the patients at the OPDs, they faced a lot of problems as the doctors had to reschedule their engagements and in some cases the operations had to be deferred.
