IGU Challenge tees off at WSC tomorrow

The Western region qualifiers of the IGU National Club Challenge, will tee off at the Willingdon SC here tomorrow, with all the club golfers, irrespective of their handicap getting an opportunity to represent their clubs on a national level.

Around 100 club members above the age of 18 (Men & Ladies) will play the club qualifiers of Willingdon Sports Club.

Members will compete in five handicap categories which are 0-6, 7-10, 11-14, 15-19 and 20-24 and the individual winner in each handicap category will automatically be selected to represent the club team while the sixth team member and captain will be nominated by the club.
 

The teams thus selected go to the second stage, the Zonal Finals which will take place at Oxford Golf and Country Club, Pune on December 20.

At the 18 hole Zonal finals, the best five 18 hole total stableford scores of the six players will make the team score and the top two teams from each of four zonal finals will qualify for the third stage - the National Finals.

The club qualifiers, zonal finals and national finals will be played in individual Stableford off 3/4th handicap allowance.

Akshay Kilachand, Captain, Willingdon Sports Club said, "We have received over 100 entries for this event making it one of the most sought after events in the calendar. The smaller handicap categories has made sure that there is enough opportunity for all golfers irrespective of their handicap to be able to compete and win in their category - opening up the field even more than other tournaments.
