Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur and Indian Paint Association IPA) today signed an MoU for a masters programme in coating sciences and technology from the academic session begining in July 2017.

"As per the MoU, IPA will help IIEST frame curriculum in a more industry-specific manner. It will also organise development programmes for faculty members helping them in getting greater exposures to industrial problems," a statement said here today.

"This collaborative education and research programme will go a long way in creating appropriate manpower who will be able to serve the coating industry - an extremely important segment of the manufacturing industry. Our collaboration will be based on development of advanced technology in the area of corrosion and coating," IIEST director Ajoy Kumar Ray said.

IPA members together contribute nearly 85 per cent of the country's paint production estimated at Rs 42,000 crores.

The necessity to forge effective partnerships between the industry and academia is crucial. The association is one of the most effective means of tackling the lack of job readiness in the labour market, the release stated.
