IIEST student killed in road mishap

A student of IIEST was killed and four others, including three of his classmates, were injured when an app cab they were travelling in crashed into the median divider of a flyover this morning, police said.

The students were on their way to a national-level eligibility test for PhD programme at New Town from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) campus hostel at Shibpur in Howrah when the accident occurred.

The car crashed into the median divider after descending from Maa flyover to the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, injuring the four students and the driver of the vehicle, the police said.
 

While Sayantan Biswas died after being taken to a city hospital, the four others are under treatment, an officer investigating the accident said.

The cause of the crash is being probed, he said.

The driver of the vehicle is under treatment at the National Medical College and Hospital.

IIEST director Ajoy Roy told PTI that the four were students of MSc Physics and were going to New Town to appear for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) when they met with the accident.

He said they were first taken to the state-run National Medical College and Hospital and had to be shifted to a private facility later.

Syantan was declared brought dead by the doctors of the private hospital, he said adding all the four students were very talented and well-behaved.
