Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) to commence its classes at its upcoming Guwahati centre from this academic session.
According to an official release, the state steering committee of IIIT-Guwahati, headed by Gogoi, has asked the management of the institute to start its courses from this year.
Earlier, the first IIIT of the northeast was scheduled to commence its courses from next year.
IIIT-G is being set up under Public-Private-Partnership mode after the Centre had proposed to set up 20 such institutes across the country in 2010.
