Indian Information Service (IIS) officers today expressed their condolence on the passing away of former principal information officer (PIO) Shakuntala Mahawal.
The officers remembered her as a "wonderful human being, a great boss and leader who knew only to smile".
Mahawal, an IIS officer of the 1969 batch, passed away in Brussels on April 16. She was ailing for a few months, an IIS officer said.
She was 72 years old and is survived by her two sons.

She served as a PIO from March 2004 to July 2005. She has also worked as special correpondent at the All India Radio's officer in Brussels.
Mahawal also held the post of spokesperson for the Finance Ministry and also served as the Head of News in Doordarshan.
