Faculty members of IIT Delhi would call on Director R Shevgaonkar soon after he returns from leave on January 11 to persuade him to withdraw his resignation.

The meeting is expected on January 12 which would be followed by another meeting with the faculty forum which had passed a resolution this Monday "unanimously" supporting the Director.

"We will discuss the matter with him. We have tried earlier to persuade him but he is not ready to reconsider his decision. Now that he has received support from all quarters, we are hopeful that he will have a change of mind," said one of the members of the forum.

The forum also expressed hope of receiving some kind of communication from the President's office after a copy of the resolution was sent to Pranab Mukherjee, the Visitor to the IITS.

In its resolution, the forum had said they "unanimously and unitedly extend our full support to our director."

"We vehemently protest the malicious allegations and the politicisation of issues in the press and media," it said.

Shevgaonkar, whose resignation had triggered a controversy, has attributed his decision to some "unforeseen situations".

The Ministry is yet to take a call on his resignation.

"Towards the end of the year... Some unforeseen situations developed and I had to decide to step down from my position," he had said in his mail to the faculty and students.

Shevgaonkar, however, did not elaborate on the factors that had led to his decision to quit.
