A waterless urinal, fibre wrapping for earthquake protection of buildings, plastic from potato starch and solar powered refrigeration system, are some of the draws to IIT-Delhi's 'Open House 2014' event this Saturday.
Other key exhibits include a viable alternative to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a thermometer that checks hemoglobin instantly, a cholesterol-checking device and other programmes which, if implemented, promise to bring transparency and accountability in governance.
"The platform of Open House is our endeavour to bring in education, research, innovation and competent designs into the realm of market and quench the desire of young minds to know more about technology," Prof Suneet Tuli, Dean of Research and Development department at IIT-Delhi said today.
The annual event of the premier institute of the country, showcases innovative research projects undertaken by IIT students and faculty.
The tenth edition of 'Open House' is planning to bank upon around 140 live demonstrations and many student projects as well as commercial designs.
"Design, aesthetics and the market are generally not taught in the classrooms. But our students have picked up the trade to exhibit their projects offering functional excellence and superior aesthetic value," Tuli said.
The exhibition is aimed at school students and college goers.
"We get a lot of interesting and curious questions from young students. We hope the exhibition will reach out to all those who are interested in the various wonders of Science. A team of IIT professors and industrialists will award the most striking projects," said Joby Joseph, event's chairperson.
