There was an imperative need to address the growing ecological issues and concerns with emphasis upon energy and water management, Director IIT, Guwahati Prof Gautam Biswas said.
"The need of the hour is to focus on improving potable water availability and waste water disposal," Prof Biswas said while inaugurating the Student's Chapter of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) recently. (on Saturday).
There was also an urgent need to enhance water supply infrastructure and sewerage monitoring, treatment and disposal systems is an urgent need and this was feasible only when Green Infrastructure is targeted in a holistic framework for developing smart cities, he added.

IGBC aspires that the place one lives, work, study, play and commute should all go the green way and the IGBC students' chapter aims at encouraging young minds, make green as a way of life and also facilitate them in becoming green ambassadors of the country, he said.
Architect on Green Buildings at IGBC-CII Sourav Ganguly, Professor-in-Charge, Green Office, IIT Guwahati Prof Ramgopal Uppaluri and Faculty-in-Charge, IITG IGBC student chapter Prof Boeing Singh were present.
