As a part of efforts to evolve a regulatory framework for earthquake resistant construction, IIT Jodhpur has decided to educate and update engineers, specially, from local bodies through a programme on seismic behaviour of buildings.
The two-day-long programme, launched today, will focus on the dynamics of the buildings in order to understand their behavioural patterns during an earthquake.
Director of the IIT Jodhpur, CVR Murty, said the programme would lay emphasis on what actually happens during an earthquake and how the architectural choices affect the seismic behaviour of a structure.

He also added that the disasters could be prevented or at least minimised only by taking adequate measures right from planning to construction of a building.
"There is very little knowledge or expertise about anti-seismic technology in construction in the country and with a view to address this, we have come up with this programme with an objective to help engineers with required knowledge about seismic behaviour of the buildings," Murty said.
