IIT Madras in pact with TVS Group firm for road safety

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has inked a partnership with TVS Group firm Harita Seating Systems to transfer technological know-how in monitoring driver performance and behaviour.

The move to form a partnership comes in the backdrop of a recent study, which said that 40 per cent deaths in accidents occur due to human error or driver fatigue, IIT Madras said in a statement.

As per the partnership, IIT Madras would transfer "indigenous technological know-how on monitoring of driver performance and behaviour".

"Both IIT Madras and Harita Seating Systems plan to leverage their extensive experience in product development and manufacturing to make commercially viable products that enhance road safety", the statement said.
 

"We believe that we could assist HSSL launch intelligent safety systems incorporated products in near future and thereby make a small contribution from IIT Madras in the journey of safe roads", IIT Madras, Department of Engineering Design Professor Venkatesh Balasubramanian said.

Harita Seating Systems supplies driver seats for commercial vehicles, tractors and off-road segments and passenger seats for buses. It has five manufacturing facilities across India.
