: Illegally erected banners and digital posters near a police station at busy Ukkadam area were brought down by police after social activist 'Traffic' Ramasamy threatened to do so himself and stage a picketing.

Ramasamy arrived at the spot after having visited various areas in the city yesterday and a posse of policemen followed him, anticipating problem, police said.

Seeing them, Ramasamy demanded to know why banners and posters, particularly of political parties and corporates, were allowed to remain there, despite expiry of permission.

He suggested they voluntarily remove them or else he himself would do that and engage in picketing.

At this police removed five or six banners, obstructing visibility at traffic junctions and places of large public concentration, they said.

Later, Ramasamy submitted a memorandum to city police commissioner A K Vishwanathan and urged him to take steps to remove all llegally erected banners and digital boards of political parties and big companies which were creating a lot of hurdles to road users.
