The Commissionerate of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack busted an illegal gun manufacturing unit in Khorda district today, seized five country made arms and large amount of catridges and arrested three persons in connection with it.
Commissioner of police R P Sharma said the police also nabbed the owner of the arms manufacturing unit and an associate during the raid by its quick action team at Panichhatra village of Khorda district.
The materials seized during the raid comprised one 7.65 mm pistol, three country-made revolvers, one country-made single shot pistol, three half-constructed revolvers and 36 rounds of live ammunition.
This apart, fire-arm making implements like iron press, grinding stones, iron pipes and iron brushes, cutter blades, hammers, tongs and a wrench were also seized during the raid.
Police said the arms manufacturers sell a single shot gun for Rs 5000 to Rs 7000 and six-shot revolvers at Rs 10,000 in Khordha district.
"Investigation is on to verify how many pieces of illegal arms have been manufactured and sold since the inception of the manufacturing unit and the antecedents of the accused," Sharma said.
