Karnataka MLA Santeesh Sail today appeared before the Special Investigation Team of the Goa Police's Crime Branch probing the illegal export of iron ore from Goa between 2007-12, police officials said. '

Sail, an Independent MLA from Karwar, has been booked for the alleged involvement of his company, Mallikarjun Shipping Private Limited, in the illegal export of iron ore from Goa between 2007-2012.

He was granted anticipatory bail earlier today by the District and Sessions Court in Panaji, officials said.

A senior Crime Branch official said that Sail was questioned for two hours.

Sail was summoned on April 9 to appear before the Crime Branch but he had skipped it claiming that his mother-in-law was unwell.

The Central Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court had found that Sails company, along with ILC Industries Private Ltd, Dream Logistics, and SB Logistics, had exported 80 lakh tonnes of illicit ore from Belekeri port in Uttar Kannada district in Karnataka.
