As part of an anti-encroachment drive, authorities Sunday retrieved a prime piece of land belonging to Auqaf Islamia by demolishing several illegally constructed shops in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesman said.
The drive was carried out at village Keranwali in Ramgarh tehsil under the supervision of deputy commissioner, Samba, Sushma Chauhan.
The retrieved half an acre land was later handed over to the representatives of Auqaf department, the spokesman said.
Some locals had illegally occupied the land and raised illegal structures on it.
"Despite strong opposition by the encroachers during the eviction drive, the team of revenue department with the help of local Police pressed JCB into action and demolished all the illegal pucca structures," the spokesman said.
