Illegally mined iron ore seized

Eightytwo tonnes of illegally mined iron ore, being transported in six lorries, were seized by officials at Karignur near Hospet in the district today.

The iron ore worth Rs 1.23 lakh was confiscated by officials of the departments of Forest, Mines and Geology and Police, a Forest official said.

The ore was reportedly being transported to Andhra Pradesh, he said.

All those involved fled the scene as the lorries were stopped, the official said.
