Illegal arms were used during the recent violence that erupted among members of two communities in parts of Mewat district, Haryana DGP S N Vashishth today said.

He told reporters that a special campaign to flush out such arms would be launched by the state police in the districts under South Range.

The illegal arms were being smuggled into Haryana from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, he said.

The DGP said an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) under the command of Superintendent of Police, Mewat, Simardeep Singh had already been posted in Mewat district to stop incidents of violence there.

"The IRB Battalion of 700 jawans has been deployed in Mewat," he said.

Curfew was clamped in violence-hit Tarou town of Mewat district in Haryana on June 8 in the wake of tension between two communities following a road accident in which one person was killed.
