ILP demanded for Meghalaya

The unabated influx was posing threat to the tribal population of the state and the ILP was a necessity, Joe Marwein, Working President of the Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People, told reporters here.

"If Manipur can do this, why can't Meghalaya," he asked.

Khasi Students' Union President Daniel Khyriem said the government had made tall promises, but nothing was done.

The matter should be debated in the ensuing session of the state Assembly and a decision taken to introduce the ILP, members of ten NGOs said.
