India's International Master B S Shivananda created a major upset when he defeated Grand Master Gagunashvili Merab, the fourth seed, in the 6th Mumbai Mayor International Chess Tournament here.
However, Shivananda's compatriot - IM Aditya Udeshi - muffed a golden chance to stun the tournament second seed, GM Amonatov Farrukh, despite having two extra pawns than his rival in the end game and settled for a draw.
At the end of the fourth round, GM Babujian Levon (ELO 2488) of Armenia and GM Pantsulaia Levan (ELO 2563) of Georgia held the joint lead with 4 points each at the National Sports Club of India.

The game of English opening between top seeded GM Mchedlishvili Mikheil (ELO 2645) of Georgia and GM Papin Vasily (ELO 2552) of Russia ended in a quick draw after 12 moves.
GM Levan opted for Reti opening against IM Rahul Sangma (ELO 2382) of Railways. On the 20th move Rahul exchanged his Queen and opted for equal end game. But on the 22nd move Levan forced him to give his Rook for the Knight and won the game in 42 moves.
