The Goa chapter of the Indian Medical Association has welcomed the state government's decision to withdraw free treatment facility to non-goans.

Non-Goans availing medicinal facilities at state-run hospitals will now have to pay "nominal" fees for the services, offered free of cost till date, the Goa government had announced yesterday.

"We strongly support him and urge him to start charging the patients from outside the state as early as possible," IMA GoaPresident Medha Salkar said in a statement.

"All the neighbouring states have their own health schemes and we urge the state health minister to have a tie up with Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh government so that their schemes can be extended to government hospitals in Goa," she said.
