In a first, the city unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) will use the electronic voting machine (EVM) for its election, slated to be held on September 20.

Since large number of candidates stand for the elections, it takes entire night to count the votes. Hence, we are planning to introduce EVM machines this time, Election Committee Chairman of the IMA, Dr SK Katiyar, said today.

Talks for EVM machine are already on with a private company and decision in this regard would be taken soon, he added.

The last date to file nomination for the post of president, vice-president, minister and ten office bearers is September 7, Katiyar said.

Around 2,100 IMA members are expected to cast their vote in this election, he said.

The vote will be cast at a government school this time to maintain transparency, Katiyar said.

Besides these, use of posters during campaigning is also banned this time, he said.

Meanwhile, IMA President, Dr Kiran Pandey, said the construction work of the state-of-art IMA building here is going full swing and it will be ready soon.
