The committee headed by Dr T N Babu Ravindran would file its report to the IMA by Sept 30 and action, if necessary, would be taken, IMA Ethics Committee State Convener Dr Abraham Varghese told reporters here.
Allegations of the cancer drug trials, conducted on behalf of a multi-national pharma company, not being transparent would be looked into by the committee, he said.
The IMA announcement comes days after Kerala Government said it has decided to constitute an expert committee to look into recent reports that hospitals and private research centres in the state were carrying out "unethical" clinical trials on patients.
The clinical trials of the drug are going on in 88 major cancer hospitals in 21 countries, including India and the U.S. with patients suffering from advanced head and neck cancers taking part in them, Varghese said.
Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and Amirta Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi are among those participating in the drug trials in the country.
In Amrita, 14 patients, suffering from advanced head and neck cancer, were part of the trials which started in August 2007 and over a period of time nine of them passed away. (MORE)
