AINRC MLA Ashok Anand today called upon the administration to take immediate steps to prevent chemical industries from "indiscriminately discharging industrial effluents" considering the safety of sub soil water in the neighbouring coastal village of Kalapet.

"If the sub soil water is polluted, serious consequences would emerge following consumption of the water by the innocent villagers", he said drawing attention of Chief Minister during zero hour in the Assembly.

He said another chemical industry in the village should also be monitored on the safety measures it was adopting.

He said the Pollution Control Committee and the government machinery should exercise utmost vigil to prevent the industries from causing threat to environment and the sub soil water.
