Concerned over condition of senior citizens, widows and differently-abled persons in the state, CPI-M today asked Governor N N Vohra to immediately release funds meant for their welfare and maintenance.
"We express serious concern over the pathetic condition of widows, orphans, destitute, differently-abled, and old people in the state", CPI (M) leader and MLAMohammad Yousuf Tarigami said here.
Seeking the Governor's personal intervention, Tarigami said "Rs 200-400 financial assistance to widows, old people is too small an amount to fetch them medicines. The amount received by them after running from pillar to post in Social Welfare department needs to be reviewed and enhanced without any further delay."
The CPI-M leader also criticised the government for "spending money on unproductive areas instead of focusing and utilizing that money to provide financial assistance to the uncovered segments of the society who are in extreme distress.
