Bus services between Imphal and Ukhrul district bordering Myanmar in Manipur will stop indefinitely from today if there is no settlement between owners and a social organisation demanding 'tax'.

Secretary of the All Manipur Bus Owners' Federation, A Priyo Kumar told reporters that bus owners would stop services from today as Ukhrul-based social organisation Tangkhul Naga Long has demanded payment of Rs 12,000 annually per bus from owners.

Kumar said village chiefs of the district did not consider it necessary for bus owners to pay the 'tax', but the TNL would not allow bus services without the money being paid.

District officials have been asked to take steps to arrive at a settlement between the social organisation and the bus owners' federation.

Hundreds of citizens, who travel to Imphal for attending office or business, would suffer if there is no bus service.
