Devotees assembled at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore in Pakistan to observe the martyrdom of fifth Sikh Master Guru Arjun Dev had made this request to the Akal Takht.
The gathering said there had been a lot of confusion relating to gurpurabs, martyrdom days and other dates due to certain amendments made by the SGPC in the original calendar without seeking a consensus within the community.
This was stated in a release issued from Lahore by the American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC).
AGPC Coordinator Pritpal Singh said they had requested the Akal Takht to implement the original Nanakshahi Calendar, according to the release.
He urged the Akal Takht to implement the original calendar and if any amendments were needed, these should be carried out after consultations with Sikh leaders and creator of the calendar Pal Singh Purewal.
