Alleging that Madurai Kamaraj University had not implemented the sub quota for Arunthatiyars who fall under the Scheduled Castes in many appointments, the CPI(M) today urged the varsity to follow the reservation norms.

"Not even one candidate belong to Arunthathiyar community in the list of candidates finalised by the MKU for appointments to eight teaching positions reserved for them," CPI(M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan said here in a statement.

Alleging that the sub-quota for Arunthatiyars was not followed in many appointments made by the university, he said it was "condemnable, illegal and social injustice."

Urging the varsity to give up its "wrong" approach and implement the quota for Arunthatiyars, the Marxist leader appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to intervene and uphold social justice.

"The sub-quota for Arunthatiyars was achieved after years of struggle by the CPI (M) and many Arunthathiyar organisations, and the stance of MKU on this issue is unacceptable".
