Importance of tapping renewable energy sources stressed

Samuel A Hinds, Prime Minister of Guyana, said efforts are being made in his country to make energy from agriculture waste and biomass. Hinds also said his country is having close cooperation with neighbouring nations in the renewable energy sector.

Canada's Minister of Natural Resources Joe Oliver said international energy consumption is expected to grow further and there is a need to tap renewable energy sources. He also highlighted the role of private sector in renewable energy sector.

Energy and Environment Minister of Maldives Mariam Shakeela elaborated the steps taken by Maldives to develop the renewable sector of the Indian Ocean island country.

 

Noting that Maldives is among the most vulnerable to predicted climate change and non-action is not an option for it, she said her country with limited resources have taken several sustainable measures to save the islands from the impact of climate change. (more)
