Improve performance immediately: Dikshit to power discoms

Unhappy over long power cuts in areas across the city, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today asked power distribution companies to improve their performance immediately.

At a meeting with representatives of BSES discoms, she said the power distribution companies must ensure round-the- clock supply of power so that consumers do not face any inconvenience.

Talking about reform in the power sector, Dikshit said the supply position has improved and transmission losses have been brought down substantially.

"The city government has been encouraging conservation of power by providing subsidy on limiting consumption of power up to 400 units per month," she said.

Last month, the government had clearly told the discoms that the government would not hesitate to take punitive action if the companies fail to improve the supply.

Officials said government was particularly unhappy about long power cuts in areas where electricity is supplied by BSES Yamuna Power Ltd and BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd.

The BSES discoms supply power in 70 per cent areas of the city while Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL) distributes power in around 25 per cent areas, while New Delhi Municipal Corporation supplies power in Lutyens Bungalow Zone.

Officials said government has not received any complaint of power cuts in areas served by TPDDL and NDMC.
