Improved rly services in Arunachal

The efforts of Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa to improve railway services in the state has paid dividend as the North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) has replaced the coaches of Naharlagun-Guwahati Inter City Express and Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Express with brand new ones besides improving other services.

Catering provision in the Naharlagun railway station has been made and railway staff position strengthened with the positioning of station master, NEFR General Manager R S Virdi told a review meeting convened by the Governor at Raj Bhawan here today.

The GM further informed that cleanliness in the railway station was being closely monitored and security aspect also being taken care of, a governor office communique said.
 

The governor commended the NEFR for compliance of his observations, which he took up with the Prime Minister and the union railway minister recently.

Rajkhowa suggested for keeping quota of seats for people of the state in the Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Express, particularly for emergencies.

"Availing seats from such provision must be well publicized so that the common people can avail of the services," he said and suggested for introducing AC First Class coaches in the daily intercity express between Naharlagun and Guwahati.

The governor advised the GM to explore provision to run the Naharlagun-New Delhi Express on daily basis and Inter City Express twice a day.

On Bogibeel Bridge, Rajkhowa said that the people of Arunachal Pradesh were interested in its early completion and urged the railway officials to increase the pace of work.

Virdi informed that the Bogibeel Bridge would be commissioned by June 2017.

Earlier, briefing the Governor on railway projects in the state, the GM requested him to fast track the land acquisition process for Murkongselek-Pasighat railway project to which Rajkhowa gave his full assurance.

The GM also briefed on the proposed projects for which survey has been initiated.

It includes Missamari-Tawang,

Pasighat-Tezu-Parasuramkund-Rupai and North Lakhimpur-Aalo-Silapathar railway-line projects.

He requested the state government for provision of land for Railway office cum rest house in Itanagar, the communique said.
