In a bid to encourage institutional delivery, the Koraput district administration has decided to arrange Rs 1,500 as cash reward to any person who brings a pregnant woman to the hospital at the time of her delivery.
The officials believe that the monetary reward will increase institutional delivery and play a major role in bringing down the maternal mortality rate (MMR).
"People often waste a lot of time in deciding whether to shift women in labour to hospital, thus endangering their lives as well as those of the still-born. Many a times patients are brought to the hospital in critical situation at the last moment," said Koraput Collector Jaya Kumar V.
