Normal life was affected in the metropolis today owing to incessant rain, even as the Met department forecast more downpour during the next three days, owing to an active monsoon.
Several arterial roads in the city, including Central Avenue, IT hub in Salt Lake, Rajarhat-New Town and Dum Dum were waterlogged in the morning, causing inconvenience to office-goers and students.
Bad road conditions led to heavy traffic in many parts, including Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and Salt Lake Bypass in the east and Behala in the west.
The Met department has forecast moderate rain, with heavy downpour at one or two places in West Bengal till Sunday morning.
With the intensity of rain being higher in the northern outskirts of the city compared to the south, low-lying areas in Dum Dum, the IT hub at Salt Lake's Sector V and Rajarhat-New Town were the worst affected.
Dum Dum recorded the highest rainfall of 138 mm till 5.30 pm today from 8.30 am yesterday, the weatherman said.
Alipore in the southern part of the city recorded 64 mm rainfall during the same period.
