Incessant rains trigger landslides, NH-2 blocked

National Highway-2, the lifeline of Manipur connecting it with Nagaland's capital from the Southern Angami region has been cut off as incessant rains triggered massive landslides, blocking roads.

District administration officials said though vehicles were plying till yesterday, the road has been totally blocked with no vehicles passing today.

A stretch of about 100 m have been badly affected along the NH-2 as mudslides continued in the mountainous terrain, officials said adding around ten houses have damaged.

A bus bound for Dimapur from Manipur got stuck in the mudslides and fell about 200 officials said adding, the passengers were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
 

A BRO official said the heavy downpour since last night was triggering more landslides in the area, but efforts were on to clear the blockades.
