Inclusion of 'narikuravars' in ST list before cabinet soon

The matter relating to inclusion of the gypsy community of 'Narikuravars' in the list of Scheduled Tribes of Tamil Nadu will soon be taken for approval to the Cabinet, Minister for Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj V Kishore Chandra Deo today said.

"I shall be very shortly taking the matter to the Cabinet for its approval. Once the Cabinet approves the proposal, I shall be introducing the Amending Bill of the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) order providing for inclusion of 'Narikuravars' in the list of Scheduled Tribes in the state of Tamil Nadu, in Parliament," Deo said in a letter to DMK chief M Karunanidhi,
 

Karunanidhi had written to Deo seeking inclusion of 'Narikuravars' living in the state in the ST list.

Deo's letter, which was released to the media today by DMK, also said the matter was being processed in his ministry and the proposal to be cleared by Registrar General of India and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes as per the prescribed procedure.
