The Central government should increase the import duties on soya, cotton and sugar, as their prices in the domestic market were falling, senior BJP leader and MP Gopinath Munde said here.
Indian farmers would benefit if the prices were stabilised, he said.
Talking to reporters, Munde said that Centre had no policy on import and export of agricultural commodities and it should frame one.
He also said that about 75 per cent of sugar factories in Marathwada region of Maharashtra would be hard-pressed to find sugarcane this season, as the crop would be affected by low water storage in Manjara, Jayakwadi, Bindusara, Terna and Lower Terna reservoirs.
