The death rate and the infant mortality rate in the national Capital has witnessed an increase in 2015 as against 2014, according to the city government's Delhi Statistical Handbook 2016 released today.
As per the report prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, the death rate worked out to 6.82 per thousand population during 2015 as against 6.77 during 2014 while the infant mortality rate was recorded at 23.25 per thousand live births in 2015 as compared to 21.66 in 2014.
According to the report, the number of live births registered in Delhi in 2015 was 3.74 lakh as compared to 3.73 lakh in 2014 and 3.70 lakh in 2013.
The late report revealed that a total 1.23 lakh deaths happened in the national capital due to various diseases with respiratory diseases claiming 6,502 lives and injuries being the cause behind 3,136 deaths in 2015.
Deliveries at public institutions have increased from 20,5471 in 2014-15 to 20,8616 in 2015-16 while deliveries at private institutions increased from 42,528 deliveries in 2014-15 to 44,139 in 2015-16.
The reports pointed that 5,709 condoms were sold per 1000 population in 2015-16 while 3990 were sold in 2014-15.
Also, 17,383 sterilisations were conducted in 2015 against 17,458 in 2014-15.
As per the latest statistics, 4,686 children above the age of one year were detected with protein energy malnutrition in 2015-16 as against 6,833 in 2014-15.
The number of children, detected with protein energy malnutrition, between 1-3 years stood at 7,855 in 2015-16 as compared to 6,833 in 2014-15.
A total 3,355 malnourished children, above the five years were admitted and treated in the national capital as compared to 23,962 in 2014-15.
The neo-natal deaths showed an upward trend in the national capital with the city recording 1,049 neo-natal deaths in 2015-16 as compared to 933 such deaths in 2014-15.
